About the Author
Bala Paranj has a masters degree in electrical engineering from Wichita State University. He has been working in the IT industry since 1996. He started his career as Technical Support Engineer and became a Web Developer using Perl, Java and Ruby. He has consulted for companies in the USA, Australia and Jamaica in finance, telecommunications and other domains.
He has professionally worked as a developer using TDD and pair programming for startups. He is the founder of Silicon Valley Ruby Meetup. He has been organizing Ruby, Rails and TDD related events since 2007. He has taught TDD Bootcamps and TDD tutorials for Silicon Valley Ruby Meetup members for more than 3 years.�
He published an article in JavaWorld in 1999 on the Command Pattern. Java Tip 68: Learn how to implement the Command pattern in Java. He is also the content creator for the Whizlabs OOAD test simulator. This is the exam simulator for students preparing for IBM 486 Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with UML. He is the author of self-published book Rails 4 Quickly.

About the Author

Irene Deliege obtained her qualifications at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. After a twenty year career as a music teacher, she retrained in psychology and obtained her PhD in 1991 from the University of Liege where she was responsible for the Unit of Research in Psychology of Music. A founding member of ESCOM, she has acted since its inception as permanent secretary and Editor of the Journal MUSICAE SCIENTIAE. She is the author of several articles and co-edited books dedicated to music perception.


Jane Davidson is the current Callaway/Tunely Chair of Music at the University of Western Australia. She has published extensively within psychology of music with research topics including expressive body movement, collaborative performance, music learning and ability, and singing. Her first academic appointment was at University of Keele between 1991-1993, where she worked as a post-doctoral fellow with John Sloboda and Michael Howe on an innovatory study of the biographical determinants of musical abilities. This led to more than 20 joint peer-reviewed publications.

Oxford -- Still the Tops

For what seems like forever the Oxford Classical series of publications has been number one in the field. Because of its reputation, and because of other Oxford publications that I own, I purchased this book and was not disappointed. It is a bit pricey, but an excellent investment for those studying or working in the classical field.

All four editions of the OCD are in my library. I'm sentimental regarding the 2nd edition, of 1970, as it was new when I was beginning grad school. That said, the 4th is a worthy successor and augments well my old companion of the Ancient World.

This book is primarily intended for the use of students of Motor Car Engineering; but it is hoped that many engaged in this branch of Engineering science, including owners of cars, will derive some benefit from a perusal of this volume, which has been mainly written from the notes used by the Author in his lectures to Ordinary and Honours Grade Students at the Polytechnic School of Engineering, Regent Street, W.

An attempt has been made to cover the Syllabus of the City and Guilds of London Institute in this subject, which, as may be seen from pages 404 to 407, is very extensive, but it is believed that nothing vital has been omitted excepting the Materials of Construction and the problem of Balancing, which belong properly speaking to Design, and have therefore been included in Volume II. of this work.

The Automobile Engineer should have a good working knowledge of thermodynamics, mechanics, chemistry, electricity and mathematics, in order that he may intelligently carry out his work. This is often difficult for him to obtain, and although the space available precludes an extensive study of these subjects, the hope is expressed that the information contained in this volume will materially assist him in understanding the principles of Motor Car construction.

The Author is indebted, in several instances, to the descriptive matter contained in the booklets issued by the Manufacturers of certain Specialities, for the descriptions which appear in the text.

To my knowledge the only source of correct information available for early motor car engineering. This book would be great for motor car apprentices to gain basic knowledge of general motor engineering skills. I have an original hard cover of Volume II - Design from my own apprentice days and it is a good source of reference for technical knowledge and specifications.
