So just whose side are you on? Are you with the strict Iron Man, who seeks for all mutants and superhumans to register with the government. Thus making their identity public. Or are you with the AWOL Captain America, who seeks freedom in his heroism and doesn't think superheroes should have to become "lapdogs" to the government so to speak.

With gorgeous artwork and a GREAT storyline spanning across several Marvel series this year... Civil War is a good reason to become a comic book fan.

I don't know of any other book that covers these ...

I don't know of any other book that covers these crucial topics so thoroughly and in such depth. A wide ranging collection of essays, reports, and guides written by and for educators based on real, classroom experience. So much has changed in our experience and awareness of these issues in a very short time. This book covers all levels of education. I teach at the college level, and many of my students are ahead of me in their understandings of and the language around these issues. I'm grateful to have this as a reference.

I've always loved creative writing. I realized I wanted to write a book during my senior year in college. It only took 14 years for me to try. Truth is, I never had an idea for one until August 2014. Before I even completed that first draft, I "knew" I only had one story to tell. Then that story became a series, and now I can't stop writing. The ideas just keep coming.

The obsession is real.

Great Ideas, lots of fun and well edited to boot!

Good Story, hard to believe this is a first time novel for this Indie writer.

Well written, the plot moves quickly, fun twists and turns. I am definitely looking forward to the authors next work, if this is her first I can only imagine she'll get even better. I hope Ms. Sbrocca doesn't make the mistake other authors do and pays just as much attention to detail and subtleties in her subsequent books as she has in this first one. She could also have the twenty something characters grow up a little in their conversations and attitudes as they would in real life with the passage of time.

About 1/3 way through the book I started wondering if this was just going to go on, I won't add a spoiler but if one of the main characters turned out to be who they claimed, there was only one way this book could turn out and I was beginning to think this could get a little boring and what could possibly take up the later part of the book to make it still an enjoyable read? The author was ahead of me though, introduced another character and the fun pace continued. Mrs. Sbrocca took some chances, one claiming that the main family characters are descendants of what some historians consider the "First American Terrorist" but she ended up smoothly pulling it off and even liking this possibly questionable character in true American History.

You know you are reading a good book when after you have finished and even while you are reading you go to google to search for some of the historical characters mentioned because you have had your curiosity peaked as to their personalities and how plausible some of the situations they find themselves reacting to are.

There are some serious reading and some humorous moments as well. As the description reads this book deals with a time traveling slave so the issue of slavery is comes up in this book as does civil rights and the plight of the freed slaves being free only in word but not as far as the actions of the majority of their now equal fellow Americans. The book does lean toward the preachy side in a couple of places but falls just short of actually reaching that level. I think it was appropriate and possibly "destiny" for me to be reviewing this on MLKs birthday, I had no idea when beginning this book a few days ago how appropriate a read for this holiday weekend it would be.

The Author has obviously done her homework, I love the figures of speech the characters use, it feels very real and you feel a part of the "knowing something is afoot" by "listening" to some of the conversations.

I've been reading a lot of Indie lately, some of it is very hard to read due to editing apparently being done by spell-check alone (they could at least use the grammar-check feature too, but no evidence of that). Some Indie books too feel like they've been written by teenagers or feel very Young Adult like or feel like they're being written down or dumbed down for us less than knowledgeable readers. The Crossing Hour does not feel that way, the author assumes you know some basic American History and if not familiar with the subject have the desire to educate yourself more about it.

I highly encourage readers to pick up this book and introduce yourself to some new character friends, you won't be disappointed.

I would actually rate this book as a 4.5, I leave 5 stars for books such as Enders Game, The Garden of Iden (the Company Series), Child of the Morning and Raising the Stones. However if this author continues the good writing I do not doubt she has a 5 star book rattling around inside her brain that she'll share with us.

Fantastic Debut Novel a Marriage of Sci-Fi and Historical Fiction

The Crossing Hour is a fantastic debut novel. I love both Sci-Fi and Historical Fiction, so this was a marriage made in heaven. When astrophysicist Stanley Graf discovers planetary black holes that act as time travel portals into the future, the Graf family must protect the integrity of American history when they discover that several key figures from the past are brought into the present year.

I especially enjoyed how the author thoughtfully considered the demeanor of individuals who are instantly transported to a future world. Her consideration of their attitude about inventions that would've seemed impossible or miraculous in their era is very well presented. While the present-day characters were likeable enough, the stars of the show, in my opinion, are the colorful figures from history that grace the pages.

While one or two editing issues may have slipped through the cracks, the writing is crisp and better edited than other self-published works that I've read. Even though time travel is not new to the realm of Sci-Fi, Sbrocca's treatment of the topic is fresh and original. I look forward to following Quoleena Sbrocca's next novel.

Brilliant and emotionally satisfying

Going in, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from the description of historical novel meets time travel fantasy, but the concept intrigued me. As it turns out, I loved it. The time travel aspect is less SciFi and more magical realism.
The story was incredibly creative and well told. I loved the use of historical figures in the modern world, though I admit, there was one certain young traveler from 1990 who I maintain used the knowledge he gained for nefarious purposes. I found myself tensely reading along and even at times mentally shouting at the characters as it looked like they were setting themselves upon the wrong path.
But what really engaged me in the story was the absolute raw manipulation of emotions that the author excels at. Be it the Graf's family dynamic and events that befall them, or the wonder with which the travelers see the modern world and the changes they have affected on it, there were few if any times that reading didn't have an emotional impact on me.
I would highly recommend this book, not just to fans of time travel stories. I can't wait for the next book.

About the Author

Fred Lutgens and Ed Tarbuck have been good friends and colleagues since 1970.� Between them, they have more than 57 years of experience teaching geology to undergraduates, and both have been recognized with awards as excellent and inspiring professors.� They share a special interest in introducing geology to beginning students and a belief in the value of field experiences for students of all levels.

Lutgens and Tarbuck published their first college text, Earth Science , in 1976.� That book, winner of the McGuffy Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association, is now going into its tenth edition.� In 1983, as the first edition of Earth was being prepared, gifted geology illustrator Dennis Tasa joined the author team.� Since then the three have collaborated on more than twenty projects.� Not only do Tarbuck, Lutgens, and Tasa work well together creatively; they also enjoy spending time in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Tasa’s New Mexico studio.

Tarbuck enjoys downhill skiing in Colorado, fly fishing near his childhood home in Northern Minnesota, and spending time in the Cascades.� Lutgens is an avid runner, and when he can make the time, truly enjoys hiking the canyons of the Colorado Plateau.� Although Lutgens and Tarbuck think alike on many issues, they don’t agree on everything.� Lutgens is devoted to jazz and classical music, whereas Tarbuck prefers pop artists or a good country station.

Great Textbook

Earth Science For Everyone!

This is an excellent paperback, very instructional, with many color photographs throughout. It's also extremely will written, easy to understand, and complete--each subject is a full lesson, well done. I'm very happy with this purchase, and will keep this book in my library.
I purchased this text for a class at CSU, so it was written for the purpose of being instructional. And it is...including the publisher's website, which I wish I had more time to explore. If you really are interested in learning about Earth science, this is your text! I highly recommend it.

Finally! Light on the Shadows

Great Book! Direct, clear discussions on key topics relevant to personal growth, many pertaining to important Toltec concepts introduced, but not fully clarified by Castaneda. Theory gets context so following the heart of the topic and transferring it to 'real life' is easy. I am impressed and relieved by this book which is a great text for the perplexed.

Some topics include:
- The Inorganic Beings and predators/flyers:
Lujan explains how inorganic beings do and can affect one, in dreaming and here in the first attention. Examples offer insight and as always the stark relevance of all this to you and your life. This casts light on the shadows, the darker side of our reality, to make it absolutely clear what we are up against for our evolution and freedom.

- The Attentions/states of consciousness:
explained: lucidly the nature and progression of the first attention, the second attention, the third attention as well as the fourth attention. How one achieves fourth attention consciousness -as a practical reality.

- The Double:
the above interweaves with hitherto unknown details about the double, what the double is and is not, how the double fits into our lives and its role in evolution. Most eye-opening.

- Toltec mystery:
The Toltec teachings has long been presented in rather esoteric terms in the "classics", leaving much room for interpretations that harm both the warrior and his or her environment. This is addressed.

This book presents, amongst other facts, the most striking knowledge and in- depth description of the shadow beings, and their devastating effect on individual consciousness as well as on humanity as a whole.

This book challenges the propositions established from years of stagnant knowledge about dreaming and energy, knowledge and knowing, living and dying; then brings them back into a communal ownership of knowing by illuminating the necessary action required to move beyond our current perception of reality and what is possible. While there are no easy answers or confuscated concepts, the truth and simplicity of the ideas expressed by the Nagual Lujan cut through the illusions of knowledge with uncomfortable precision.

Beyond what most call day-to-day living is our potential, entwined with many variables challenging that potential. For many the journey for growth becomes a search that is looped with more confusing answers, misdirecting energy and focus in pursuit of knowledge that does not often bring about inner knowing and development of that potential. Here, one receives what one needs at each moment of interacting with the energy embedded within the book by tapping into the awareness of inner knowing. The book empowers the reader to reclaim the potential for our journey of evolution one layer of knowing at a time and one energetic step at a time in ways that continue to astound me.
