Pragmatic and insightful -- good reference

This is a very readable and pragmatic book for anyone interested in understanding how people contribute to the organization's ability to act intelligently, learn, and produce results.

The book exemplifies "knowledge for action" in the sense that Chris Agyris used that term. The reader will pick up insights that are immediately useable and lay the groundwork for a powerful gestalt.

The authors focus on how all the puzzle pieces of the organization not only fit together but interrelate. The book is organized so the reader can focus on a particular area of interest, find just enough theory to prepare for a more practical examination, and read about real-world examples. The reader is not bogged down in theoretical details, and does not follow a recipe. Instead, he or she is given enough guidance and freedom to build up knowledge from a personal perspective.

Using a background of Elliott Jaques' stratification theory, the book examines how people interact with situations to accomplish work and produce results, why they succeed or fail, and how and why individual and organizational learning occur (or not).

The book is richly cross-referenced so the individual can examine a concept across topics, and it has an excellent index.

I highly recommend this book for any manager or student of management who is interested in learning organizations, strategy, personnel management, and knowledge management.

Systems Leadership: Creating Positive Organisations

Excellent read. Good balance between theory and practicality. The management approach proffered has successfully underpinned Rio Tinto's management system for more than a quarter century.

Whilst the book is based on Elliott Jaques' studies and theories, it is well tempered by the managerial experience of its authors. The book is annoted with numerous stories of Rio's implementation challenges, and the benefits so derived.

Not necessarily a "How To" book, but full of good management sense backed by conceptual frameworks.

A practical book for crearing effective leadership and culture

This book is well written based on the actual application of the concepts and principles in real businesses and not just a set of ideas cobbled together by consultants for a quick profit or because they seem like a good idea. The content of the book is well proven in practice and it works and the book helps in their learning very effectively.

An excellent reference or textbook in field of assessment methodology

John Till and Helen Grogan have put together an excellent team of authors with great knowledge in the field of environmental assessment and uncertainty analysis. A major inclusion in this text is one of communication with the public and how to gain their trust in dealing with the sensitive and difficult topic of radiological health effects. Dr. Till has specialized in this area as well as technical areas and has been awarded several national awards for his efforts. The text is clearly written by the various authors with many details, graphs, and tables to illustrate the points at hand. Many of the chapters also include problems which can be used for class assignments. It is this, however, where the text could use a little improvement. Yes, I could sit down and answer these prior to assignment but it would be nice if the chapter authors had either a separate text or supplied the rationale and solutions to their problem. Regardless, this book, to re-iterate, is an exceptional value and a leader in its field.

The O'Sullivan Book is a Great Reference and this International Version is the More Practical Purchase

I have the ebook, but wanted a hard copy of the textbook. I chose the international version because brand new it is cheaper and it has all the same information. This book isn't hardcover and the pages aren't glossy, but that doesn't matter to me. Though, I just noticed that a hardcover version is being sold. I didn't have that option before. Also, I don't know if the domestic version has additional online access to info, but as far as I can tell, this version does not. Again, that doesn't matter to me.

The O'Sullivan Physical Rehabilitation book has excellent information for certain diagnoses that PTs and PTAs will mostly encounter during their practice. It also has chapters on examination that can be generally applied to any diagnosis. It is organized well and easy to understand. I have heard that this book is used in more rehabilitation classes than any other book in both PT and PTA programs. Whether that is true or not, it is a great reference to study for the licensing exam as well as during practice. If you need this book for class or simply for reference, I highly recommend buying the international version.

A timely, unique and outstanding book

I highly recommend Judy's book for being outstanding in revelation about trading in heaven. Since I've heard teachings about this topic first from Apostle Natasha Grbich, Ariel Gate International, this is the first printed teaching available to the body of christ all over the world. What makes this book so valuable besides the revelations of how to trade in heaven are the study sections to each chapter. It's also interesting to see how God reveals in this season more and more about the connections between the courts of heaven and trading on the sea of glas through different ministers of the gospel. A must have book for trading and living according to Gods business rules.

An absolute must read

This book helped me realize that everything we do is a trade. Things we think are harmless and innocent, like an exaggerated resume can actually affect our destiny. Choosing what we eat or drink is a trade for good or bad health. The author's simplistic style of writing enables youth and young adults to grasp this concept early on. I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those in business.

Judy's book, has assisted me in realizing the WHYs? Too many of my questions I have asked The Lord during my quiet time in prayer. It will make you think what doors have you left opened, and how to close them once and for all, so that your trading in the the spiritual trading floor will always bring you a positive return and everlasting dividends, and how Grace is there to assist us with our "trading". I truly believe that it is a book that will help a Christian who is serious in his/her Christian walk.

LOVE IT!

I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS, BUT THIS ONE WAS WORTH IT! This is a GREAT book for people wanted to jump head first into C#. I'm the type of person that never reads a technical book from cover to cover... I read enough to understand what I'm doing and then use the book as a reference. This is the perfect book for that! It gives you just the right amount of knowledge to start working with C# and tons of samples that actually work! I loved it so much I bought two copies -- one for home and one for the office.

Excellent, worth for those who want to learn

This book is packed with knowledge. Every page is worth its weight in gold. I read it from cover to cover. Re-doing EVERY exercise manually. Trust me, I know what I'm saying.
I worked with the 1st Edition. Took me 8 months to finish the book thorougly. Yes there is some mistakes and typos. But if you understand the text, you can correct these mistakes easily. As a reward, the exercises I redo is always better than the book's ones.
Some persons complaint that there's too much authors resulting in style discrepancy and the chapters slightly overlap their introduction. Yes it's true. And I found that it's rather a GREAT advantage. Just because each author gives you the best of their expertise. Do you think an author of ASP.NET could give you detailed explanation all the intricacies of the C# & .NET runtime environment?
The repetition of some concepts is not really a waste, this book is advanced. I found that it's rather good. Actually, I found this book doesn't have enough pages. Sometime I can't do better than 3 pages a day.
The chapters related to the .NET and C# language fundamental (Chapter 1 to 10) and advanced techniques (File IO, ASDI, COM+, GDI+, .NET Remoting, Windows Services and Security) are simply wonderful. They represent +80% of the book. I rated the ADO.NET and XML chapters 4 stars. The weakest part is ASP.NET, Web Services. I wish the author had choosen a simpler example and add may be few more chapters. The chapter on Custom Control is OK. In anyway, I can't blame the author, to get serious on ASP.NET, you'd rather buy a specific book.
I particularly like the side notes and the Appendix giving a background comparison C# and traditional languages (C++, Java, VB).
If you expect from this book a collection of recipes of code ready for cut and paste, then you will be likely disappointed. This book is for those who are willing to LEARN. The C# language and OOP concept itself is not that difficult. It's rather the .NET Framework itself and how to use wisely the wealth of its base classes.
One reviewer said "too many authors who don't know their stuff". Not true, while I was redoing the exercise, I perceived the style of each of them. Generally they're good. And when needed, the authors answer to my emails. I'm an experienced programmer, when something is bad, I can see it easily.
I come from a VB + ASP background, thanks to this book, I now have a pretty solid knowledge of .NET and a pure style C# programmer. I have had hard time to grasp the whole stuff but now I can tell you that I'm happy to leave the VB world.
I wholeheartly recommend this book to anyone who want to learn C# _AND_ how to make useful application with it. Be courageous, spend some time, you won't be disappointed.

An excellent book in my opinion

I am enjoying this book so much that I thought I'd write a review about how I felt about this book. The second edition of Professional C# is really an excellent piece of work. The authors have done a real good job covering a wide range of topics. Not only did I get to learn the basics of the C# language, but the book took me well into the depths of the .NET framework class library. The book starts with a thorough explanation on what the .NET framework and the CLR is all about and where C# as a language fits in. The C# language is introduced in 3 detailed chapters - The basics of the language, Object oriented features in the language, and advanced topics on C#. These chapters had some really nice examples and gave me a strong foundation in understanding the constructs of the language. This is followed by an introduction to the core classes in the framework and how to put them to use. From then on, there are 18 more great chapters covering the framework class library in detail right from writing Windows Forms Applications, Data access with ADO.NET, Controls and Data binding, how to work with the XML classes in the framework, ASP.NET, COM(+) interoperability techniques, GDI+, Web Services, Remoting, Security, Windows services, ADSI etc., You name it and there's probably a topic on the subject covered in sufficient detail to get you up and running. It's hard to pack such exhaustive content all into one book, but they've done a great job at that. Overall, I am very happy with the book and it's well worth the money I spent for this 1220 page tome.

About the Author
Drake Eastburn is a registered psychotherapist in the state of Colorado, and a Board Certified Hypnotherapist and Certified Instructor through the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH). He is a member of the National Federation of Hypnotists, OPEIU LOCAL #104 and a member of the Colorado Association of Psychotherapists (CAP) of which he has served on the board. Drake is the Director of Eastburn Hypnotherapy Center, and Co-Instructor for Eastburn Institute of Hypnosis, which he founded with his wife, Lynsi. Drake is a regular presenter at the National Guild of Hypnotists annual convention and Summer Institute in Marlborough, MA, and at various other conventions and conclaves including the Mid-America Hypnotists Convention in the Chicago area. He is the creator of a highly specialized smoking cessation program which he has taught internationally, along with companion classes for a number of his books. Drake is one of the most prolific writers of contemporary hypnotism. He is the author of The Power of the Past, a book chronicling his decades of experience with hypnotic regression therapy; a unique script book called Power Patter; No Time to Waist, a weight loss book/CD set; What Is Hypnosis?, a text book used in hypnotherapy trainings, The Power of Suggestion, insight into the hows and whys of hypnotism; and the soon-to-be-released Therapeutic Hypnotist. He has also authored numerous advanced hypnotism trainings. A Primer On Suggestion

The Power of Suggestion by Drake Eastburn is an excellent book for both experts and newcomers to the language of hypnosis. Myself being the latter, I was initially worried that I wouldn't understand some of the concepts, but this wasn't the case. The language is clear and concise, and I never felt as if the author was pandering to me.

What I particularly enjoyed were the explanations of how suggestions affected the subconscious. I've always wondered exactly how hypnosis works, and now I feel like I have a solid understanding. After reading the explanations, and the included hypnosis scripts, I have a much better understanding of the power of suggestion. Recommended for anyone looking to learn more about how our minds work.

When I read the summary for "The Power of Suggestion" by Drake Eastburn it sounded like a book that I would be very interested in reading. Well after reading this book I can tell you that this is most interesting and complete book on the language of hypnosis that I have ever read. The author really does an exceptional job of explaining how the power of suggestion works and why it’s so powerful. As a fan of hypnosis I thought I knew the basics of suggestions but my eyes were opened when Drake Eastburn explained how suggestions come down to being Positive or Negative, Direct or Indirect and all the rest are variations of these four. The author is clearly a very accomplished hypnotist who has decided to write a skillfully crafted book that other hypnotists can use to further their knowledge regarding the language of suggestion. I was very impressed with how complete this book is and how Drake Eastburn touches on so many important areas of hypnosis such as metaphor, affirmations, afformations, leverage, scripts, pacing & leading and so much more. For those with an interest in hypnosis you need to purchase this book because you will not find a better book that covers how to use the power of suggestion or discusses the subject in such detail. This book is not only for students of hypnosis, hypnotists and hypnotherapists but anyone with an interest in the language of hypnosis & the power of suggestions. I highly recommend “The Power of Suggestion” and I’m looking forward to reading more books by Drake Eastburn in the future.

A Must-Read for New and Even Seasoned Hypnotherapists

When someone begins training as a hypnotherapist, he or she soon realizes that the subject material is wide-ranging. Some of the information is essential, yet other topics are only nice-to-know. Understanding and proficiently using proper and correctly-formed suggestions are vital to the professional hypnotherapist.

In "The Power of Suggestion" Drake Eastburn adds to the fine tools delivered in his first four books.

In plain language, he explains how the subconscious can be prompted to initiate change through the skillful use of indirect suggestion. Methods include metaphor, embedded commands, affirmations, afformations, confusion, and the very effective double-bind. He draws on the world of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) to explain why these patterns work. In this context, these techniques are known simply as Ericksonian Hypnosis. As a bonus, he even includes some his original hypnosis scripts.

If this book was available when I first became a professional hypnotherapist, I would have started my career with a more solid foundation. I highly recommend it to those wishing to enter this career path, and even those currently working as professional hypnotherapists.
